Read this prior to creating your character(s)!
? How do I know if the name I want is taken?
Generally, a quick glance down the character applications will be enough. To be entirely certain, you can click "Search" in the navigation bar and search for the specific name you want. Set the parameters to 50-ish days, 25 results should be sufficient. If the name is in use by a current, active character, you will get a hit. If not, it isn't!
! Banned Breeds: Currently none
! A word on Realism-
It is not unthinkable that a dog will be 'large' or 'heavy' for its breed, though moderation is appreciated. If your would-be character is a mix, do a quick google search for the height/weight standards for your sex, and consider picking something in the middle. Remember: these dogs (usually) do not live the high life, and that can cause them to be underweight or have retarded growth. Except for a very rare few members of the very tallest breeds, dogs will not reach three feet in height (36") at the withers. Characters found to be breaking this rule or generally giving the middle finger to reality (I'm looking at you- rainbow fur!) will be subject to mandatory revision.
These may be helpful in choosing a breed / deciding on your dog's proportions:
1. CLICK! A Dog Breed Size Chart, listing dogs in 8 size categories- also good for visualizing your dog's size relative to others'!
2. Little tip: Imagine your typical German Shepherd as being 25" at the shoulder. Doesn't sound so small after all- does it?
3. How old should your character be? How do they age in terms of 'human years'? Hint!: It's not 1 year = 7 years! Click Here to see more. Consider the maturity level of the character you're designing. Also: 5 is not 'old' ;)
